It's rare to find a product with which an entire country can identify. This was the case in America during the 1920's with the mythological Ford-T. Similarly, for a period of two decades, the 70's and 80's, Israel was considered the land of the Subaru. In relation to the population size, Israel was number one in Subaru sales, outside of Japan and the USA, and in absolute numbers, second only to the United States. Keep in mind that this is a country with a total population of 5,000,000! More than just a car, the Subaru became a religion and a symbol for the new Israeli. Israelis connected their fate with this car until the 1990's, when the Subaru was replaced in their hearts and garages by the arrival of other imported cars. Now, towards the end of the decade, the Subaru is making a comeback. No longer the car of the masses, the Subaru now has a more prestigious reputation, especially since winning the Rally Championship. The film, which was shot in Israel and Japan, explores the relationship between the two cultures and the roots of this particular Israeli- Japanese love story. |
